BMW is making current technology news headlines in the auto industry with its latest self driving technology. This technology is ideal for those times and traffic conditions when you just do not feel like driving. BMW recently showcased the latest self driving standard by equipping their 5 Series sedan with an autonomous system and allowing to drive a long a freeway.
Braking, accelerating and passing were all controlled by the car itself. It was also able to account for merging vehicles by changing lanes or easing off the gas depending on the situation, all while traveling at speeds over 80 mph which is typical on European freeways. The technology to control these basic maneuvers is actually quite complex, as it requires the car to accurately pinpoint its position within its lane and recognize its surroundings.
